MCA-Belize

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is an independent U.S. Government agency focused on unlocking growth through results-driven foreign assistance.

The accountable entity responsible for implementing the Compact in Belize on behalf of the Government of Belize.

MCC provides funding and oversight; MCA-Belize implements the program.

The goal is to unlock economic growth by strengthening the education sector and lowering the wholesale cost of electricity.

Countries must demonstrate good governance, economic freedom, and investment in people.

Belize met MCC’s eligibility criteria and demonstrated commitment to national development priorities.

Through national consultations and economic analysis identifying key constraints.

• Education Project: focuses on addressing the lack of post-primary graduates with the necessary competencies relevant to labour market demands, including numeracy, literacy, 21st Century Skills, and certified technical training.
• Energy Project: focuses on reducing the wholesale cost of electricity in Belize.

Students, educators, institutions, businesses, and the wide population benefit from improved education systems and more affordable electricity.

The United States of America Government through MCC is providing a US$125 million grant (not a loan). The Government of Belize will also contribute US$54.94 million to the compact.
