MCA-Belize Engages Stakeholders to Shape the Future of Technical and Vocational Education in Belize

Millennium Challenge Account (MCA)-Belize continues to strengthen collaboration with key partners as part of the Belize Compact Education Project through a series of stakeholder engagement meetings and visits to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the country.

As part of Activity 2: Training and Transitioning to Work, MCA-Belize hosted representatives from the public and private sectors for a series of engagement sessions designed to increase awareness of the initiative and gather valuable stakeholder input. Participants represented a wide cross-section of industries and organizations, including the business process outsourcing (BPO), tourism, agriculture, and education sectors, alongside engineering professionals, government agencies, the Ministry of Education, and labour unions.

The sessions provided participants with a high-level overview of the proposed reforms under the Belize Compact, including the development of a proposed TVET Act and the establishment of a National Training Authority. Discussions focused on strengthening understanding of the proposed changes, encouraging stakeholder participation, and identifying opportunities for collaboration to build a more responsive and sustainable TVET system.

Beyond sharing information, the meetings created an important forum for dialogue. Stakeholders offered insights and recommendations that will help inform the ongoing development of Belize's technical and vocational education system while reinforcing stronger connections between education, skills development, and workforce needs.

Complementing these engagement sessions, the MCA-Belize team recently visited TVET institutions throughout Belize to meet directly with students, instructors, administrators, and other education stakeholders. These visits provided valuable opportunities to hear firsthand about the successes, challenges, and opportunities within Belize's TVET sector.

The discussions highlighted the dedication of educators and institutions in preparing students with practical skills while reinforcing the important role that technical and vocational education plays in developing a skilled workforce capable of meeting the country's evolving labour market demands.

These engagements reflect MCA-Belize's commitment to ensuring that the design and implementation of Activity 2 is informed by those who will be most impacted by the reforms. By fostering meaningful dialogue and strengthening partnerships across government, industry, educational institutions, and civil society, MCA-Belize is helping to create a TVET system that better equips Belizeans to successfully transition from education to meaningful employment.

As implementation of the Belize Compact moves forward, continued stakeholder collaboration will remain central to achieving a modern, inclusive, and demand-driven TVET system that supports economic growth and expands opportunities for current and future generations of Belizeans.
